Soft Block with Ribbon Loops

Squares of Babyville Boutique™ PUL combines with colorful flannel to create this easy-to-make playtime block. A Babyville Boutique coordinating applique and assorted ribbon loops add texture and visual interest that baby is sure to love! Make several blocks in various sizes by using larger or smaller sized squares.

  • Coordinating Ribbons, 1 1/3 Yards
  • Quality Polyester Thread
  • Polyester Fiberfill

Instructions

The smaller block was made using 4" squares and 3" ribbon cuts.

  1. Cut one 5" square of PUL, five  5" squares of flannel and twelve 4" long ribbons.
  2. Sew the frog applique shape onto one of the flannel squares.
  3. Lay out the squares in “T” shaped pattern, with four squares across and three down.
  4. Fold each ribbon in half to create a loop. Securely machine stitch the ribbon loops onto the squares so there is one ribbon in each seam.
  5. Sew the squares together using a 1/4" seam allowance. 

    TIP: Start sewing 1/4" away from the edge then end stitching ¼" from edge. Starting and stopping stitching 1/4” away from the edge will enable you to achieve a nice, sharp corner.

  6. Sew the two remaining edges of the row of four squares together, forming the sides of the block.
  7. Sew the top and bottom fabric squares to the cube, making sure to leave a hole for turning and stuffing.
  8. Clip the corners and turn the block right sides out.
  9. Stuff the block with polyester fiberfill and then hand stitch the opening closed.
